When we tell people "God loves you" it's as if they expect us to say that! They must wonder...'how does God actually love me'? Even most Christians truly cannot comprehend just how much God really loves them. If they did, it would change the way they live and respond to God. Since we just celebrated Valentine's Day and love is still fresh on our hearts, let's try and define just how much God dearly loves us!
We could go to John 3:16 and use that very familar verse to express God's love. He sent His Son, Jesus, to reveal His love for the world. But, what about Romans 5:8 "But God demonstrated His love toward us in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Wow! THat sounds like geninue love to me!
1 - The Proof of God's love -- He demonstrated it by sending His own Son to die for us. God proved it by sending Jesus to the cross!
2 - The Purpose of God's love - He died for us while we were still sinners! You can believe that? While I was still sinning, Jesus went to Calvary for my sin! Why? To save me when nothing on this earth could! God became flesh and took on my sin and the sins of the world!
3 - THe Price of God's love - Jesus Christ died for me! He took my sin and gave me His righteousness! The price was great, but God paid it for me..and for you!
So, the next time someone tells you that 'God loves you' - just turn to them and say, "He sure does"!!
