Sonny Schofield

Sonny’s Life Verse: John 8:36

“Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.”

Sonny grew up in Luverne, Alabama. He graduated from Luverne High School. He attended Enterprise State Junior College and Troy State University.

Sonny moved to Huntsville, Alabama in 1977 and then in 1983 he moved to Athens, Alabama. In 1984 he met his lovely future bride, Suzanne. They were married in 1984. God blessed them with two beautiful children, Amber and Andrew. Amber is a student at Troy University and Andrew at Athens High School.

In 1984, Sonny and Suzanne joined First Baptist Church. Under the mentorship of his pastor, Dr. Fred Lackey, Sonny began a closer spiritual walk with Jesus.

God moved Sonny and his family to First Union Baptist church in 1990. Under the leadership of his pastor, Dr. Joel Carwile, he learned how to witness, minister, and disciple people. During his time with Bro. Joel he was involved in the “Dream Drama” ministry and he lead a “prayer warrior group that God literally started in the home of Sonny and Suzanne. While at First Union, Sonny was ordained as a deacon in 1992 and was called and licensed to preach the gospel in 1993.

Then, in 1995, God called Bro. Sonny and his family to serve at Lindsay Lane. Bro. Sonny was called to serve as Minister of Education in March of 1995 and has served in that position since that time. He was ordained as a Minister of the Gospel in 1997. Under the leadership and example of his present pastor, Dusty McLemore, he has grown tremendously in the word and in his leadership skills. Pastor Dusty is not only his pastor, but his mentor, and one of his very best friends.

Sonny’s passion is to see people come to the saving grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, to provide the best quality opportunities for them to become disciples, and to provide training to teach them to make disciples of others.
